Definition: The use of a cystoscope through which a fiberoptic probe is directly introduced into (interstitial) the prostate. Heat energy is conducted through the probe to the targeted prostate tissue which is then reabsorbed by the body, reducing the size of the prostate. Approved as an alternative to the TURP. One system is the Indigo LaserOptic Treatment System, made by Indigo Medical. See laser.
