Peyronie's disease
Synonyms: penile fibrosis, penile fibromatosis, penile induration, Van Buren's Disease
Definition:
(pay-ROH-neez) A hardened area (fibrous plaque) forms in the corpora cavernosa of the penis, preventing that area from stretching. During erection, the penis bends in the direction of the plaque, causing deformity and a painful erection.
The cause of the disease is not known but it appears that men who have had a radical prostatectomy (or even forms of radiation therapy) are more prone to it.
A section at Phoenix5 is devoted to the subject.
