Abbreviations: DES

Definition: (dye-ETH-ul-stil-BES-trol) A synthetic female hormone used until 1971 as a birth control, but taken off the market due to birth defects. Before more current hormone therapy, it was the only treatment men had for lowering their testosterone. It is still being used and tested in lower dosages.
