Definition: (eye-at-roe-JEN-ik) Induced in a patient by a physician's activity. The word originally meant a condition induced by the physician's examination, manner, or discussion but the term is now applied to any adverse condition resulting from treatment by a physician or surgeon, especially an infection or other complication of treatment.
