Definition: (pah-THOL-lo-jist) Pathology (pah-THOL-lo-gee) is the science dealing with the theory or causation of disease. Today, a pathologist is considered to be a doctor who identifies diseases by studying cells and tissues under a microscope. A pathology report provides a description of cells and tissues, based on microscopic evidence, and used to make a diagnosis of a disease.
