osteoporosis
Definition: (OSS-tee-oh-pa-ROW-sis) Often misspelled as osteopErosis. A condition characterized by a decrease in bone mass and density, causing bones to become fragile (skeletal related event). It is often a side effect of hormone therapy. Another danger is hypercalcemia. A bone mineral density (BMD) test is used to measure possible bone loss.
