metastatic cancer

Synonyms: carcinomatosis (KAR-sin-O-mah-TOE-sis), advanced cancer

Definition: (MEH-tuh-STAT-ik) Cancer that has spread from the place in which it started to other parts of the body. With prostate cancer, it has moved into tissues, organs or bones not connected with the prostate gland. Designated as Stage M. See metastasis, TNM staging.
